Quality Guide: What is 2-micron plating and why does it matter?
If you've ever bought plated jewelry that peeled after three wears or left green marks on your skin, it means you've bought what we call "flash-plating."
In the world of jewelry, not all plating is created equal. Most "fast-fashion" brands use a tiny layer of gold — just enough to change the product's color in the display. We do things differently. Our earrings have a 2-micron 14k gold plating.
But what does that actually mean for you? Let's talk plainly about what you're paying for.
What, exactly, is a "Micron"?
A micron is one-millionth of a meter. It sounds small, but in jewelry, every decimal counts:
-
Standard Plating (0.175 microns): This is the norm for cheap jewelry. It's practically just a "whisper" of gold that disappears after a few wears.
-
Our Standard (2.0 microns): This is over 10 times thicker than regular plating. In the industry, this is considered "heavy gold plating."
Why 2 microns is the "magic number"
We chose the 2-micron thickness because it's the perfect balance between luxury and durability. By applying this generous layer of 14k gold over a 925 silver base, we create a piece that has the weight, shine, and look of solid gold, but at a price that allows you to build a collection.
Being a thick layer, the gold doesn't just "sit" on the surface, but adheres strongly. It resists fine daily scratches much better and maintains its warm 14k hue much longer than cheap jewelry.
Our honesty policy
We want to be completely honest: gold plating is not eternal. Unlike solid gold, any plated item will, over time (after years of wear and friction), reveal the silver base.
However, because we start with a 2-micron layer, this process is considerably slowed down. You're not buying an accessory for just one season, but a piece designed to be part of your style for a longer time.
Solid 14K Gold or 2-Micron Plated Silver?
If you're unsure what to choose, here's a quick guide to help you find the perfect option for you:
Choose Solid 14K Gold if:
-
Lifetime Investment: You want a "heirloom" piece of jewelry that you can wear non-stop, without any worries.
-
Long-term Value: You are looking for a piece that will retain its financial value over the long term.

Choose 2-Micron Plated Silver if:
-
Identical Look, Friendly Price: You want the identical visual appearance of 14K gold, but at a much more accessible price.
-
Versatility and Trends: You like to wear modern, "statement" pieces and create bolder looks.
Note: We use premium 2-micron plating (well above the industry standard of 0.2 microns). This means your earrings will remain golden and shiny for a much longer period.
How to tell the difference?
When buying jewelry, look for the numbers. If a brand just says "gold-plated" without mentioning the base metal or the thickness in microns, they are probably hiding a very thin layer over a cheap metal (like brass).
We are proud of our specifications: 14k Gold. 2 Microns. 925 Silver. It's the recipe for jewelry that lasts, looks premium, and is friendly to your skin.
